Caving Photographs

Welcome to my caving photograph collection, mainly taken between 1966 and 1980.

The earlier slides were taken on an Ilford Sportsman 35mm camera. The later ones with a Zenith SLR. Light was supplied by a flashgun using PF1B bulbs in the smaller caves and PF5B in the larger chambers.

The Ilford was light and went nearly everywhere with me. Its lens wasn’t all that good, hence the large number of poor photographs.

The Zenith weighed a1Kg and tended to get left behind, thogh it had quite a reasonable lens for the price..

Click on the thumbnails and a larger version will appear in a new window.

All the larger pictures are 800 pixels by approximately 540 pixels. They were scanned at 1800 dpi and their colour and contrast adjusted, but they are 40 year old slides!. If you would like a copy at a larger resolution I can supply ones up to 3650 dpi. At 1800 dpi the file is approximately 2 Mbytes. Please contact me photos@rphowells.co.uk
